FAQ
Louisiana Container Questions
Questions about pricing, delivery, permits, ground conditions and container grades in Louisiana. If your question is not here, call or text (330) 510-5817.
New Orleans sits on the lower Mississippi River among canals, levees and low lots. Baton Rouge, the state capital, sits on Mississippi River bluffs, with wet ground and bayous around it. Lafayette is in Acadiana, a region of rice fields, crawfish ponds and farm country. Southwest Louisiana has prairie and marsh, with petrochemical sites around Lake Charles and the Calcasieu ship channel. North Louisiana has piney uplands, Red River bottoms and delta farmland.
Pricing and Delivery
Pricing terms. Starting prices name the container grade and the city, delivered to a standard-access location in that city. What you pay depends on the size, grade and condition you choose, on what is in stock when you order, and on the access at your site. Sites with restricted access may carry an additional delivery charge. Container One sets prices, and they change without notice. Your written quote gives the price for your order. Prices as of 2026-09-30.
Containers arrive on a tilt-bed truck, which slides the container off the back. That means the truck needs a straight, level run at the drop point:
20ft container: 110 feet of straight clearance from the drop point
40ft container: 130 feet of straight clearance from the drop point
The truck needs at least 15 ft of height to drive, at least 22 ft of height along the entire unloading path, and at least 10 ft of width. Low utility lines, tree limbs and roof overhangs can stop a delivery. If you are unsure, describe the approach when you ask for a quote so it can be reviewed before anything is scheduled.
Price depends on the size, grade and condition you choose, on what is in stock, and on the distance and access to your address, so there is no single statewide number. The starting prices on this site name the grade and the city they apply to. For your address, the quote form or a phone call gets you a written quote with delivery details.
Warranty runs by grade: one-trip units carry a 10 year structural and 10 year no-leak warranty, cargo worthy and wind and water tight units carry a 5 year structural and 5 year no-leak warranty, and economy units carry a 1 year roof leak warranty. The warranty travels with the grade you buy, so if warranty length matters to you it is worth comparing grades before you compare prices.
We sell containers. We do not rent them. Rent-to-own runs through a third-party partner, My Container Rental, and spreads the payments until you own the container. Our rent vs buy guide walks through when each path makes sense.
Louisiana Questions
As of September 30, 2026, a 20ft Wind and Water Tight container delivered in New Orleans starts at $2,019. Baton Rouge has the same starting price for that grade, while Lafayette starts at $2,183. Request an address-specific quote.
No. Louisiana has a state uniform construction code, but local zoning, building, flood and right-of-way rules still apply. New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Lafayette publish different review routes. Ask the authority for the parcel-specific written answer before ordering.
Container One says a 20ft container needs 110ft of straight, unobstructed space and a 40ft needs 130ft. The truck also needs at least 15ft of height to drive, at least 22ft of height along the unloading path and at least 10ft of width. Send photographs of the complete route.
No. Container One says timing depends on location, when payment is received, weather and other factors. Its Delivery/Dispatch department contacts you to schedule a date and time after payment and site review.
Yes, but a container shell is only one part of a residence. Louisiana code, local zoning, foundation, flood exposure, utilities, insulation, egress and structural modifications need a project-specific review. Use a licensed Louisiana design professional where required.
A firm, level, drained support system under the corner castings is the starting point. Louisiana soils vary widely, so the permanent foundation and anchoring should be specified for the actual parcel and intended use.
Yes. Container One offers rent-to-own through a third-party partner, and the terms come from that partner. Compare total cost, duration, condition and the terms in the quote.
Choose the grade around the contents, condition requirements and budget.
Send the delivery ZIP, intended use, preferred size and grade, the entrance location, photographs of the full route, the pad and any gate, bridge, culvert, low branch or wire.

Container Grades
One-trip: made one loaded ocean crossing. Clean floors, intact paint, close to new.
Cargo worthy: certified fit to carry cargo at sea. Structurally sound, cosmetically used.
Wind and water tight (WWT): inspected to confirm the doors seal, there are no holes, and the interior stays dry. Surface rust, paint wear and minor dents are normal.
Economy: the lowest grade we sell. Weathered, and priced accordingly.
It depends on what the container is for. If it is going to be seen, lived in, or converted, the clean interior and intact paint save real work later and the 10 year structural and 10 year no-leak warranty is the longest available. If it is going behind a shed to hold equipment, a wind and water tight unit does the same job for less.
Personnel doors, roll-up doors, windows, vents, skylights, electrical wiring and a panel, LED lighting, insulation, spray foam, HVAC, shelving, workbenches and exterior paint. Insulation and HVAC choices depend on the climate the box will sit in: Louisiana containers need a moisture and heat plan. Keep rain out, control air leakage, shade the roof when useful and choose insulation as part of a complete assembly. A storage box is not automatically a conditioned room. A conversion project needs a designer to evaluate the walls and roof, the structure, the ventilation and the flood exposure together.
A reefer has a refrigeration unit built into one end. It runs on a 460V 3-phase supply, or a compatible generator where 3-phase power is not available, and holds anywhere from -25 degrees F to +70 degrees F. The walls are insulated as part of the original build, not retrofitted.
Site Preparation and Foundation
In Louisiana, the ground issues to check are water, soft or filled ground and uneven support under the four corners of the container. Louisiana soils vary from river silt and heavy clay to prairie, sand, marsh and piney uplands. Clay holds water and softens when wet. Low coastal and bayou sites can have drainage and settlement problems.
For temporary placement: Have the delivery team review photographs of the route and pad before dispatch. A paved road does not prove that the final shoulder or yard will support the delivery equipment.
For permanent placement or a conversion: Have the foundation and anchoring specified for the parcel, soil, intended use, flood exposure and local code path. For a permanent or occupied structure, use the local permit process and a Louisiana-licensed design professional where required. Do not infer foundation detail from a neighboring property.
Frost depth: The depth to design for and the frost-protection detail are set by the adopted code and local review. Confirm them with the reviewing department and project designer rather than using a single statewide number.
Compact a suitable pad or use engineered supports, keep water moving away from the corners and account for soft fill, clay, marsh or slope before delivery.
At a minimum, make the placement area level and firm, and clear debris, rocks and brush out of the way. Confirm the straight run the truck needs, and look up for lines and limbs. Soft ground can delay a delivery: a loaded truck can sink, so the driver may wait for the ground to dry. Describe the site in your quote request so it can be reviewed before delivery is scheduled.
Security and Buying Safely
The box itself is corrugated Corten steel. The lock is the weak point, so use a hidden shackle lock, sometimes called a puck lock, inside a lockbox welded over the handle. Ask whether the selected unit has a lockbox fitted.
The recurring signs are a price far under the market, a seller who will not let the container be seen or photographed, payment demanded by wire transfer or crypto, no verifiable business identity or contact route, and pressure to decide today. A real dealer will give you a phone number, answer questions before payment, and put the quote in writing.
